First Day For Me
For me, I beleive it was in 1988. A bunch of guys as I remember would get together the opening day of Trout fishing, we would all camp at Swift camp ground. That only lasted for maybe 3 years, and we where making to much noise at night and the camp host would be making there rounds kicking people out of the camp ground. Well hell I say, so we all started staying at the rock pit just passed pine creek. We stayed there for a few years, then some dumb shit decided to swan dive off the bed of a toyota pickup into the bed of a full size lifted chevy truck (bonas). Needless to say the dumb shit fell short, about 2 feet too be exact, and slaped his knoggin on the side of the truck (lights out). So Skamania sherrif showed up, and if I remember right so did an EMT unit. Well the sheriff kicked us out, and told us to move up 1 road, so we did. He also told us no under age drinking, and as I turned my back holding his deluxe mag light, he handed me to help with the dip shit high diver, I said "well of course not occifer" and yes I know its Officer, that’s just how it sounded coming out, maybe too much mountain spring water. So we moved, and a few of the under age people stayed for a couple more years, it just started to be a smaller crowd every year. Only a few die hards are still there, that held on to the tradition since day one, and if I can remember correctly it's Me, Levy, Bruce, Ty, and I believe after a few years absence Neil. But now it has grown to be about 25 people give or take, and we bring our families. It's alot more laid back these days. We have our annual REDNECK GAMES and we ride quads and just hang out. We also have been kicked out of yet another spot, as of 2003 they have put a gate up, but we all just moved to a nicer spot.
Boy have things changed from Beer, Beer, Beer and a loaf of bread, from sleeping in a wet tent or in the back of a truck with a tarp thrown over. Now it's Beer, Beer, Beer and steak, a nice heated trailer. The day of wiping your ass with the bottom of your shirt or a hand full of leafs is over. Damn are we getting old or what, but I do know this we have weeded out the dumb shits (well most of them) and we have a great bunch of guys and some chicks.Greg used to make hats every year for a few select guys, I can't remember ever receiving one, so when Greg moved to Idaho I stared making hats for every one. I made my first hat in 1997, in 2000 I started making all the hats in a different camo pattern and just handing them out to all the guys that showed up. 2003 Is the first year we decided to do a yearly fee of 25.00 a piece for the guys, it was just getting so big it was costing me alot of money. The yearly fee covers Saturday night feed for everyone, a hat for the guys, prizes for the redneck games, targets and some other misc things. I hated to have a fee, but I could not keep spending that kind of money (wife), those of you that are married can understand, no its not the wife she is actually very helpful and does more than she should for me and everyone. Don’t get me wrong I love doing it, it’s all I look forward to, if there was no more Trout Camp and my boys there, what the hell would I do.
